HAPPY BIRTHDAY - to my niece, Amber!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY - to all those many Barretts that had birthdays, too.
I am starting my blog for this month really late. Today is the 30th of October, and I'll try to catch up on the things I remember most about this month.
The first couple of days were very cold, then most of the month was quite warm. We had our first snow on Tuesday, the 27th, and now it's very cold. This is always the time of year I wish I lived back in Florida. It seems that no matter how many years I live out here, I still hate the cold weather and the snow. I've been here since 1970 (39 years) and I still feel the same way! (I'm not a snow bunny and never will be!)
We had our LDS Church General Conference on October 3rd and 4th. I always enjoy listening to both the Saturday and the Sunday sessions. On Saturday evening, they have a priesthood session for the men, and since Ian now holds the priesthood, he can go to these meetings with the "older guys." They have a tradition of going out to Grampa Barrett's church and seeing the session there. BUT..this year, all of us went out so that we could visit with Grandma Barrett while they were in their meeting. We fixed pancakes, eggs and hashbrowns before they left, and when they came back we had ice cream and rootbeer floats.
Bob was gone for two weeks to San Antonio, TX, but he's been home the last couple of weeks, and I love it! It's been great having him here. What a sweetheart. While I work, he washes the dishes, and even brings me food..and roses from our garden!
This month, Ian came over and worked on a school project he had to do. He wouldn't let us help him, but I helped find things for him to decorate it with. He has been studying Egypt, and everyone in the class had to make their own "sarcophagus." His turned out really nice. He used some of my beads to help dress it up! We got to see it hanging in the hall when we went to his school yesterday, October 29th to see his Halloween parade. He was dressed like an army combat guy...dressed in fatigues and even army boots.
On Sunday, October 25th, we went to Angela and Richard's ward to see Anakhan give his first talk in sacrament meeting. He was one of the young adult speakers. He did such an excellent job!!! My favorite part was when he was telling a story that Angela had told him, and he called her his "Angela-Mom." That was so sweet!
ANAKHAN...we are so proud of you and all the good you are trying to do. Keep it up!
This month has been a slow month compared to others. I'm still working at JetBlue and that takes up most of my time. I did work on genealogy a little this month, but still have tons to do.
I just wanted to mention one nice thing Bob and I saw. There is a Baptist church near the post office, and while driving there one day. They always put signs on a board that everyone can see as they drive by. Their most recent one says: GOD ANSWERS KNEE-MAIL. We thought that was so fitting in these days the way we communicate so much with each other through our cell phones and e-mails.
Tonight, at our ward we have our annual "TRUNK OR TREAT" for the kids in the ward. We are also having a dinner of chili, hot dogs and hamburgers. That'll be fun! (I'm so glad I got off work to go today!)
Today is HALLOWEEN. We're handing out candy to the big and little trick-or-treaters.
Angela & Richard are doing the same at their house this year.
Anakhan is dressing up like a video game hero, named "Halo." Azure is a good witch this year. Richard is taking Anakhan and Azure around to collect candy. Ian and his friends decided they wanted to go around "scaring people" (whatever that means), so he'll have to share candy from the others.
Monica's girls are in Reno, and I wish so bad that we could be there to see them. Ariel is a 1960's hippie, and Tatum is "Tatum is "Super Girl."
